The state has filed an appeal after the High Court ruled to dismiss four extortion cases against BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The appeal, which was filed by the state, challenges the High Court‍‍`s ruling.

The case has now been included in the Appellate Division‍‍`s hearing list, which will be led by Senior Justice Mohammad Ashfaqul Islam.

According to the state‍‍`s appeal, the High Court’s decision to dismiss the cases was not correct.

The High Court had ruled on October 23, with a bench consisting of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, that the four extortion cases filed against Tarique Rahman should be dismissed.

Following that, the state filed a leave-to-appeal petition against the ruling.

To give some background, these extortion cases were filed in 2007 by several complainants at police stations in Gulshan, Kafrul, Shahbagh, and Dhanmondi.

The allegations related to extortion, and the High Court had been asked to determine the legality of these charges under Section 561(A) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
